  • What are my chances, how long does it take?

I applied for a local sheriffs department last year. Below is a list of tests and date.

    Application submitted 11/2006
PT & written test 4/2007 (Passed)
Oral interview 4/2007 (Passed) #8 on roster
    Pre- employment interview 5/2007 (Passed)
    Polygraph 5/2007 (Passed)
    Psychological test (Passed)
    Background (in the process)

How long will this process take? And what might my chances be?

how can someone answer what you're chances are? we don't know anything about your background. most people are DQ'ed from backgrounds. backgrounds can take couple months to a year, depending on your background. so it'll vary with whatever dept you apply with. you've made it pretty far and i don't know what other steps you have after your backgrounds. but i'd say if you get passed backgrounds , you should be good to go, unless something comes up in your medical.

Depending on the size of the agency, and the Background Investigator's work load, the investigation can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to three months or more. Your file is probably not the only one on the Investigator's desk. Often times, Background Investigations are done by Detectives or Line Supervisors. Something comes up, and I'll give you three guesses what gets put on the back burner. Waiting is one of the most frustrating aspects of the hiring process. Not much I can suggest to make it any easier.
