So my life long dream has to be in LE. I was in the military and was honorably discharged and have done alot of good things in my life.

While doing the intial interview they asked some questions and I answered them honestly. They asked if I had ever viewed anything "inappropriate" at work and I had so I sad yes and explained myself then they asked if I had ever done the same at home and when was the last time. So I told them.

I recieved an email saying that I would be able to apply again in 6 months. Is it really going to matter to wait that long? Or I am just chasing a an uncatchable dream?

I know that what I did wasn't right, I was never caught but was willing to admit to it. I thought they were looking for integrity...

Sorry, but I really don't know what inappropriate means in regards to your post. Don't go into it on the forum if you're not comfortable disclosing it. I have an idea what it means, but what's important is how it's viewed by an agency you're applying to. You state too, that you were notfied of your rejection by E-Mail. Perhaps that's becoming the norm, but I would have thought you'd get the old style "form letter" by snail-mail. What I would suggest you do, is continue to apply with other agencies. Depending on what "inappropriate" means, other departments might view it in a different light.

My apoligies, it was pornography, I really don't have an issue disclosing it. It is something had done in the past and would never do it again. I too when they asked the question answered it without asking for clarification and then asked two questions later for them to clarify what they ment by inappropriate and then told them all that I had done. I really wanted all their questions answered thouroughly so that nothing was hidden or left to come to light further in the interview process.

Unless you watched porn on a daily basis at your nuclear power plant job, or you just spend all day every day watching it in your mom's basement, I defintely wouldn't call it an uncatchable dream.

There could be a number of reasons why you weren't picked up. Maybe because of age, lack of education, lack of a 'click' with the oral board members, a million other things. Did they tell you that you weren't picked up because of the inapropriate material? Yes maybe that is the only reason why, or maybe it's just one thing on a list of reasons, or maybe it had absolutely nothing to do with it. Best thing to do is keep on truckin, and apply to other agencies while you wait for the 6 months.

They really didn't say why they just said in the email I had to wait 6 months to reapply...so I was curious why and called the HR guy back and he told me that they couldn't compromise their hiring practices and couldn't tell me why I wasn't hired. So I said that I was pretty sure I know why and then he said that if there had been someone who hadn't done that stuff in their past and me they would advance along the person who hadn't done it and not myself. Which makes since...I guess if I don't go back in the military I will go back every 6 months until they know me by name or say stop coming.....

Thanks I just was wondering what some other opinions were.....really trying to decide if every 6 months is worth it or finshing my 20 in the military and then pursuing it is the wisest option..

          Thanks again.

Nothing wrong with trying that department every 6 months, but also nothing wrong with trying elsewhere, even if you have to move. You can always go back a few years down the road after some experience and try again.

Hard question to ask, and you dont have to answer if you dont want. Was it child pornography? Thats about all I can think of that would DQ you in this area.

I doubt it. He was told he could reapply in 6 months. I doubt he'd be given another look if he admitted to a possible felony.

I definately have never ever looked a kiddie porn nor will I ever. That is so terrible.

I have no issues answering any questions.

The only issue I have with applying to other agencies are that almost all the city jobs require 64 credits of college I am half way there and was trying to get my foot in the door with the county. And being in Idaho this is the largest county so they hire the most and the most often so I was trying them. I will trudge forward and keep applying to all the agencies and if the same thing happens I will apply more until they all know me or I get the hint.

                  Thanks again.

Think of it this way: the next 6 months are going to FLY by...so hang in there and use the next 6 months to become even BETTER prepared.. Good luck.

Oh my, if you got DQ for watching porn (adult) in the military, there would be a police officer shortage. My barracks had the porn tapes that would circulate through the barracks. If that department DQd your for watching porn, I would look to another department.
I cannot see that DQing you. There is more to it.. there has to be.
