  • Non-criminal background issues

After going through a couple background interviews, one where I failed badly, I am beginning to think that the criminal things I have done are not as big a concern as two other things that I want to bring up for discussion here.

First, there was an incident at work where I used swear words around my boss while he was giving me instructions. Basically, I was getting frusterated and needed to vent a little. I did not disrespect him, which he affirmed, but did convey my frusteration. Afterwords we talked and there was no ill will.

Second, I was dismissed (I always put down fired) from a job I had for two months. I was let go because my supervisor decided my schedule was not flexible enough. When I was hired I made it clear that I needed a flxible schedule (I basically warned them I wanted my schedule to be able to change weekly).

Based on my discussions of these events, it seems that the BIs think I am not dedicated to work and inadequately prepared to handle stressful situations. Besides these two events my employment history is excellent. The boss that I cussed at is even one of my best references. I really don't want the perceptions of these two events to keep me out.

haven't you already asked this same question (phrased differently)?

There are more desireable candidates out there looking for a LEO career. That may be the reason you are being passed over for employment.

Let some time pass and make sure you are more attentive to your actions and words when at work. As a LEO, use of abusive language when upset and requiring special arrangments on your work schedual are not looked upon as desireable candidates.

Keep in mind, your attitude also counts. If you explain these incidents to them with a lot of justifications and attitude, they're going to DQ you.

Cussing out, and warning your supervisor(s) It's no wonder you keep getting DQ'd.

If you can't handle a little stress, in a non-LEO job w/o freaking out, perhaps LE isn't the right career for you
