I have been attending the LASD free pre physical training for their academy because it is local and I was in backrounds with them. They do allow us to continue attending even if we were DQ, but my question is, if I continue to attend LASD pre academy training, will I be alright physically if I end up in LAPD's academy? Or are we talking apples and oranges? I do not live close enough to attend LAPD's pre academy training regularly.

Chris, on the theory that any training beats no training, I'd guess you're okay. Both LAPD, and LASD enjoy excellent nationwide reputations, and a good part of those reputations is their Academys. Work on the aspects of physical training the academy emphasizes. Both will probably be pretty similiar. Obtaining information from either Department shouldn't be all that difficult, so do some checking. Good luck.

"ACADEMY" IS FOX REALITY'S LATEST RECRUIT

Cable network Fox Reality is in final negotiations to order 10 episodes of a show that follows a class of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department recruits through their academy program.
The series, tentatively titled "The Academy," is set to begin shooting this year for a 2007 premiere. This is the first time cameras have been allowed to film the program, and producer Scott Steinberg was required to get the approval of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
"This show gives us entree into a really unique world," said David Lyle, chief operating officer and general manager of Fox Reality. "There is a lot of raw emotion but in a sense that people are wanting to join (the sheriff's department) to do good. In some reality shows, the participants are very much about doing their own thing for their own aggrandizement, but here you get people with all the intensity, focus, passion, drama and jeopardy, and none of them want to lose."
