  • How to explain past drug use?

What's the best way to "explain" past drug use? I was young and stupid? Is that a good explanation? My friends were doing it? Remorse? What should an applicant say? I was experimenting...Sure, be honest-but any other suggestions? What is the best explanation?

Well...this is my advice. Saying your friends were doing it makes you look like a sheep...and they don't want sheep. They want leaders. Saying you are sorry is probably untrue...you weren't sorry when you did it, but you're sorry now that it might mean not getting a job.

Just be honest and tell them that you were curious, experimenting and after you finished experimenting that you decided that wasn't the lifestyle you wanted. It helps convince them if you haven't used drugs since
I disaprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. -Voltaire

Let me get this straight. You are asking for advice on how to explain your past drug usage to get a job in LE? That is something you need to ask yourself and explain yourself. Sorry to sound harsh, but if you are applying for a Law Enforcement job, you need "explain" this part yourself.

Don't waste time on excuses. State the number of times you used an illegal substance, and be specific as to the type of substance you used. Whether or not prior drug use will be a DQ is up to the agency you apply to.
