I really would like to become a police officer, but I have done a lot of stupid stuff in my past. I have three felonies on my record from when I use to run with a gang. I have cleaned my act up and have a family,I know that I would make a great cop because of my past. Is there anything that I can do to fullfill my dream of being a police officer.

    Probably not.

Unfortunately, your are what the above^ poster's forum name is.
What is it about, "Thou shalt not.....", do some people not understand?

With very few exceptions, 99.9% of the time any felony conviction will disqualify you. Only exception I can think of to this would be having a personal contact with either a sheriff or a chief of a small department who could hire you despite your convictions.

Maybe elsewhere, but in NC, you wouldn't make past NC Training and Standards to get your Cert.

NYPD is that easy to get into?? I was looking at possibly leaving my federal job and joining them in another year or so, but had no clue they take people with felony convictions!?

                1 mistake

What about 1 issue 6yrs ago. A felony Assault that was plead down to a A misdemeanor? Since then, married, a house, long job career (8 yrs ), a family, and already a certified Peace officer for a local sheriff's dept.? It's a question for my brother-n-law. thanks

                    Bodie

It's not a felony. It shows no felony on any reports, it was reduced. That's what they go by.

Still he was arrested for felonies and bargained them down.
He's toast. I stick with that. Too many without that crap on record to hire.

agreed, you dont have to have a "conviction' of a felony on your record, just the fact that you were arrested for one, and plead down, it was still a felony when you get right down to it,
if you drove drunk 10 times in a year, never got caught, but you still did it, it would be a felony which means not a chance,,,or atleast a very, very, very, very, very, small chance.

this is what I love about this rant

All the people here seem to know it all. I have a relative who was hired by a state police dept. with this exact issue, this is the reason why I brought it up. I wanted to show him how much negative things people had to say. For all of you who said never never never your wrong, an for all of you who said keep trying , or it's possible..thanks for proving everyone else wrong. That's the thing with cops who make a judgement on someone they don't even know, they are proven wrong, especially if they have someone in LE related to them......see ya.....
