  • Will a department hire you after you have been terminated from another department .

In 2003 after a two month internal affairs investigation I was terminated with out cause I was cleared in the investigation but because I was in still in my probationary period the Chied Deputy at the time terminated me . Since then I have not been able to land a job I have a wrongfull termination ruling by the department of labor , I also was cleared in a Post investigation and like I said my former department also cleared me as well . However all that does not seem to matter as I have been turned down by several different departments . All I want is a fair shot I did nothing wrong . I was wondering if anyone else has been in my shoes or possibly going through the same struggle as me alot of people dont understand or beleive me when I tell them that I was wrongfully terminated it seems they just dont think that a department is capable of that .

Sounds like a messy situation (blackballed). Were you able to have any union representation during the investigation period or did you have any legal representation (ie - was it a criminal matter?). Perhaps other agencies are a little apprehensive because of the ongoing litigation? Or maybe there were just better candidates available at the agencies where you applied at - did you ask why you were turned down by those different departments?

I hope things work out for you, keep your head up and continue to be persistent. In light of any "negative" circumstances that took place at your past agency, you will have to put a positive "spin" on this matter when it comes up during the hiring process with other departments (even though you were cleared). It may take several MORE tries before another department decides to hire you, best of luck.

No I did not have a Union rep to turn to and it was not a criminal matter . Due to the fact that I would be going uo against county goverment lawyer , fees are outrageous and out of my range . But everyday brings a new opportunity so I will just keep on keeping on !

IIWY, instead of just going through the application process, I'd try to speak with someone in authority (HR, BI, supervisor, etc.) at departments I was interested in to lay out the facts and ask them for their input. If you can engage them in a dialogue and get someone to actually look into the facts surrounding the issue, they might decide to look it over. But if they see this written on an application or get it over the phone from your old department, it just looks bad. They have lots of candidates who haven't been involved in an investigation and released from probation.

I had a simular incident where I was in a probationary status going thru the Norfolk Police Academy where a recruit said I cheated on an exam and this happened in week 24 of 25..they didnt even look into it and I was given no recourse except that the XO who I later found out was an idiot asked me if I ever considered the S.O.. They had to get rid of the 10%... best advice son is keep applying and stay upfront w/HR..BI..etc and inform them of what happened besides there are better paying careers not jobs out there..good luck

I don't know if your looking outside your general vicinity but if you aren't then your probably gonna have problems. All the administrators know each other and it's easy to get blackballed. All they have to do is pick up the phone and tell their buddy...the chief or sheriff you're trying to work for...that you're a problem child and that will sink you.

I would recommend applying with a large agency as far away as you can stand to go so that the good-ol-boy system isn't in effect. Thedn you can start on level ground because the new agency doesn't know you or your former employer.

You are right about that because I got DQ from NNPD because of that but I dont think I would be blackballed for life but I dont want to lie on my app should I apply to another agency..any sugestions are greatly appreciated..oh I planned on leaving the area anyway..Thanks!

Got fired once by a Mayor and hired back by next Mayor in 5 months.
                  Nice vacation.

I am trying to say reason for termination has it's effect on your chances.
