  • Resume Appearance

With little coming up on the search for resume building, I wanted to ask about how important the resume format is. My previous jobs wouldn't care how it looks, but seeing how law enforcement has high standards, I want to make the best impression about myself as possible.

So, my question would be how important is the resume format/appearance when applying?

Thanks for any and all feedback.

MOST City/County/State LEO agencies in my area don't require or request resumes................in fact they will be tossed if they are sent in.

Everything they need is on the application

All that being said my county agency requests a resume.
Since some people need to be told by notes in crayon .......Don't PM me with without prior permission. If you can't discuss the situation in the open forum ----it must not be that important

It is nice to have a current resume to work from whilst you are filling out the 26 page application. Iowa pretty much summed it up for you.

USAJobs has a decent format you can use.

I once had an applicant write in one section of our application "see resume". Both went into the circular file.

As he was obviously unable to follow simple instructions and apparently was likely to take shortcuts lol.

Iowa is absolutely correct....just make a copy of the application for your records.

Before I left Backgrounds I was able to make 3 baskets out of 5 at 10 feet.

Not to hijack TheSlammer's thread but he asked the question I was coming here for. So been doing applications for the past week, on average of 2-3 a day for agencies in Nebraska and Kansas. 1 or 2 have said send a resume along with application, but most have just said too fill out the application and return. My question for you fine officer's does anyone have a good example of a resume for Law Enforcement. Ive acquired 3 or 4 examples from friends in the past week and have 3 or 4 different styles of resumes. I am just your average Infantryman who can count so I became a Infantry mortar man lol. But I can read also so off too usajobs to see what they got.

All documents, including a resume should look as professional and as best as you can make it. Duh.

Do some research to figure out how your resume/cover letter should look and what info is normally required on it.
