  • would you hire....

Would you hire someone who was nervous in the interview, but had a good background of the agency and has put a lot of time into it and knew a lot about it?

I know oral board's expect people to be nervous, but how much does the nervousness play into affect of the outcome?

Being nervous in an Oral Board is really pretty natural. What's critical is how you handled it. We can offer thoughts, opinions, etc, but at the end of the day, it's going to be speculation. What's going to matter is how the Board evaluates you.

Being nervous is natural, but it should temper down as the interview progresses. Each interview is evaluated individually, but if a candidate has a lot of difficulty controlling his/her nervousness during an entire interview, how would that candidate be able to calm down in police situations?

There is nervous and fairly confidant, nervous and babbling, nervous and clueless, etc. Knowing the answer to department trivia questions isn't going to overcome a poor interview.

I have experienced this on panels I worked.

One in particular I still remember. I recommended not to hire. The other 3 members recommended hiring.

Being nervous is normal. Don't worry about it.

Just make sure you try to calm yourself as the interview goes on.

Nervousness is a normal thing, but don't let it dictate how you answer.
