  • Interview\polygraph questions

I would like to see what several people here think about a question I have.

I have passed the written and physical tests for the Kansas City, KS Police Department. I have had an initial interview and currently am waiting to hear back on the next step. Assuming I make it to the polygraph test, I have been wondering about the following:

I assume I will be asked if I've ever stolen anything. I have taken a cheap item from a jobsite where I was told it was OK. Other than that, the typical stuff like maybe a pen from the office, printing photos on the company printer, etc, not a whole lot comes to mind, except the following.....I have downloaded music MP3's, video games, etc without paying for them. I realize this is stealing, but I am wondering if mentioning them would seem overly silly, and if there is even a need to mention something like this to the interviewer?

    If you remember it-----------disclose it.

Who cares if it is petty------------------the last thing you want is to have a reaction to something on the poly that you didn't disclose and it worries you.
Since some people need to be told by notes in crayon .......Don't PM me with without prior permission. If you can't discuss the situation in the open forum ----it must not be that important

My new word for the day is FOCUS, when someone irritates you tell them to FOCUS

Do you actually get to talk to the interviewer and disclose stuff BEFORE the poly? I bet most people who haven't taken one don't realize that.

You will have a chance to discuss these issues with the operator before you take the test.

Disclose everything beforehand, then when they hook you up, the question will be something like:

Besides what you have told me today, have you ever stolen anything?

The downloading is not theft, it is violation of copyright laws.

Believe it or not, when you purchase something such as music, video games, etc. you are not actually purchasing the "song" or the "game", you are purchasing a "license" to utilize it within the "Terms of Use" for said item.

Just thought I'd throw this little bit of trivia out there.

              Interesting Vincelli.....

I appreciate everyone's advice. I plan to disclose what I talked about here, as well as other stuff I can think of. I don't want to hide anything. I'm actually worried I will forgot something and then remember it when taking the actual polygraph.

That just is not going to happen.

You will be so nervous at the time of the polygraph that you will probably forget your name.

Agreed. I'm assuming most people are. At least I'm normal.

I am by no means an expert, but I have taken my fair share, and they do vary by the skill of the polygrapher. Some were less unpleasant than others for sure. Having said that, if you have filled out your BI packet accurately, then there is nothing additional to disclose. As stated above, you are not going to forget anything. Discuss any issues/inaccuracies beforehand, and be confident in your answers.

I was asked at the beginning of my most recent to rate my honesty on a scale of 1-10. The polygrpaher seemed suprised that I stated "11". Without droning on, that set the tone for the poly, and it lasted 2 hours, with no follow-ups.

                    Good luck.
