Thanks for the responses guys, BTW protein cop I am not trying to change any answers or be deceptive...I have applied with literally dozens of depts over the years and have lost track of who I have applied with. I want to call around to agencies to see if they still have my paperwork so I can accurately list every dept I have applied with.

If you are not hired at my agency-----------------all paperwork gets shredded the next time we clean house . We hired a shredding service one a year.

If you are hired------------------every shred of paperwork about, for, or by you is here forever.

If you're hired, many agencies make the PHQ/Background packets a part of your permanent personnel file. Other than that, how long the documents were kept would depend on an individual Department's record retention policy. Three to five years is the norm.

About how long does a agency usually keep applicants submitted background packets on file, if they were hired or not?
