Varies from county to county, city to city, and state to state.

It depends, I would say in some areas yeas, others not so much so.... all depends on where you are and what type of depts in your area.

Around here, sheriff's deputies work the jails and do investigations related to fugitives, vice street patrol and other "full-service" LE operations. From what I've seen, the PD's around here are more competitive, but as said above, various from area to area and department to department.

In areas like yours, where the SO also works patrol, they are more selective.

A deputy covers a much larger area so the chances of him being without back up for a longer period are greater. They need more experience and generally have to be able to handle themselves and control a situation before it gets out of hand.
We will always bring back up on calls that require it but most times they send us to a verbal dispute and when we show up ones on the ground bleeding out.
Due to the Juvenile bickering and annoying trolling committed by members of this forum I have started an igore list. If your name is listed below I can't see you.

Overgeneralization that may be true in some areas while being false in others.
