How bad will this look?

4 years ago I had an altercation at work with another employee (my girlfriend)
which was in the parking lot. In the end, she hit me, I restrained her and we left. Next day I come in to work, my Id did not work to enter building and I was escorted to the security office. Bystander made claims of me hitting her and that it was on tape (scare tactic). I requested to view the tape because I know for a fact I didn't hit her. She even let them know that I never hit her.

Push comes to shove and they tell me to either resign or be fired based from the information about the incident. I resigned, but now that I think about it I hope it doesn't make me look guilty and risk my becoming a LEO. Other than that I have a clean, honest history other than traffic tickets and debt which will be paid off. I'm definitely not going to lie about it, but am worried.

Were there any formal charges? Be prepared to explain the incident in its entirety. It could potentially create problems for you, and I hope you've learned your lesson on not partaking in an inter office relationship.

No formal charges. There were 3 off duty Police Officers, who were working security for the company, that noticed the whole incident.I'm sure they would have intervened at some point if I were to hit her. Man have I ever learned my lesson.

My mistake. When I say touch, I mean hit as in push or throw a punch. I know I have to be articulate if I want to get into this field.

Yeah you won't look too good on the stand in front of a defense attorney:

Attorney: Officer, my client stated that she was not drunk that night that you pulled her over is this true?
You: No, I smelled alcohol on her breath
Attorney: Oh, so you smelled alcohol? Then you didn't even bother to test her and arrested her of "smell" alone?
You: No I tested her,
Attorney: You never said that, so I guess she wasn't drunk then now was she
You: I guess not, I'm sorry I was wrong.

Point is, if your right, your right; if your wrong, your wrong. Stand by your convictions if you want to be a Police Officer.

Remember most of the people you will encounter will try and convince you your wrong.

Rightly or wrongly, the situation is going to cause you some problems. Most, if not all Departments view Domestic Violence situations very seriously. While your particular situation didn't involve an arrest, or the filing of charges, it will have to be disclosed. I won't catagorically say it will be a "killer", but yeah, it could pose some problems for you.

I have nothing to hide, I don't think it was that big of a deal. But I did learn a real valuable lesson. Will just have to wait and see. Thanks for replying to all.

It may not be "that big a deal". That's a possibility, but keep in mind that what you or I might think isn't really all that important. Should you apply to a LE agency, it's what they think which will be important.
