  • Do i have a disqualifying psychological disability?

Hopefully I will be going to a police academy later this year. Ive wanted to be a police officer since my junior year of high school. I have completed a 2 year degree and began working on my four year degree. But I am really ready to get into the professional field of my choice, a police officer! So I am going to take the next semester off and goto the academy.

My situation is that I recently experienced a panic attack about two months ago and my doctor has prescribed me Lexapro and Xanax. The dosage is very small.

Is this situation something that should worry me about becoming a sworn officer?

No I wouldn't think so. Unless you freaked out and started beating on someone.

But you should take some time to get to the bottom of the problem and resolve it.
Too much stress, lack of sleep, etc.

There are many people in my area that do on anti-depressants for short periods of time. Usually during the winter months (Seasonal depression).

Like others I am only giving you my opinion. I am also not qualified to say for sure

, I'm not medically qualified to answer your question. At some point in the hiring process your situation will have to be discosed. The situation and use of the medication(s) will be judged in the light of agency standards.

Well that is great news guys! My doctor said that I worry to much, I tend to sweat the small things :/ And that I need to start sleeping more. I was such a video game nerd in middle school/high school and i would stay up until all hours of the night... I have been getting my doctors recommended amount of sleep lately (7-9 hours) and I have been trying to relax. I appreciate your responses and you have relieved some of my stress thanks

Wow! If you sweat the small stuff now what are you going to do if you get hired? There are a lot more smaller things going on in LE than in real life.
