  • IN state trooper placement?

My issue is that I grew up in Michigan and always wanted to be a state cop but most new state police officers get stationed or however you word it...(I say stationed because of my military background) near Flint or Detroit...but I grew up in a rural area and consider myself a bit of a country guy...now I have recently moved to Shipshewana, IN and have researched becoming a IN state trooper but I don't want to relocate if it's at all possible...so how is your station selected? my information about MI state police may also be inaccurate so please correct me if I'm wrong...I've looked all over the internet for information on this process with little success.

In most cases, you get a wish list of your top 3 locations. ISP has recently been trying to put people as close as they can to their home districts. If not, you can always transfer, if there is an opening, after your first year there.
Why are there so many babies on O.com? Creole, you and your buddy JPSO Recruit help me out on this one....

thanks for the information update...I have heard that the better you do in the academy the better your odds of getting your wish list are...but we have a wish list in the military and it's well just a wish list lol

Whitesell has come out and said that if there is an opening in a new Troopers home district, he WILL get that district. If not, a new Trooper will get placed in a neighboring district and will have first priority for a transfer if he wishes.

If you're not willing to relocate don't apply for a state job. As stated above, you can always ask for a transfer, but they will send you where they need you.
