  • Name change question

So on most of the applications im filling out it asks about name changes. I didnt think anything of it till one day I was in the car and realized I did when I was a kid, but nothing official.

In school I was known as my last name now, but my last name was changed only in late elementary and all of middle school was I known by that last name. My social and birth certificate were never changed. Then in high school I went back to being known with the last name I have now.

All my high school and college transcripts show up as the last name I have now, should I document the unofficial change of a last name I had for a few years? Thanks!

Kind of a hard to follow post. If there is, was, were, currently are, descrepancies(changes) in the name on your documents/identifaction, personal papers, etc, they will have to be noted and explained. From your post, I take it, you're not referring to mere nic-names here.

Sorry about that, trying my best to explain it without being confusing. Basically when my mom got remarried I unofficially changed my last name to his last name. They got divorced appx. 5 years later and I immediately changed my last name back to what it was before.

I will try and dig up any documents or personal papers. I know there were no identification papers that said his last name. Thanks.

So what do you guys think? Since the only documentation it would be under would be yearbooks from middle school and my old middle school records.

Just put down that you used a different last name from xx-xx and a SHORT explanation. You DID have a different name for a period of time. Question was pretty self explanatory..

Notify the agency. Why is this even an issue? Is there something you're attempting to hide? If there isn't then why would you even ask this question? What is wrong with you having gone by another name? Just tell them and be done with it. **Note to others on here, I don't think we're getting the entire story here**

There's nothing more to tell, some applications just wanted legal documentation of name change and there is none, that's all. I'm going to put it down, thanks guys.
