To what extent is your credit history taken in to account in regards to the background check?

  • #2
It really depends on the dept., with some giving it more weight than others. Is there a significant problem with yours?

With most departments your Credit History is taken very seriously. Most agencies will check your credit with one of the three credit reporting agencies. Don't confuse a credit history with a credit score, although there is a correlation. Any accounts which have been charged off, referred to collections, or are delinquent, will weigh against you. What will be of critical importance is the manner in which you're discharging debt at the time you apply. A past bankruptcy will not necessarily be a DQ, but it must be reported. I would also suggest that you pull a copy of your credit report and examine it carefully. They do make errors. Be certain that you note any errors, and that any corrections are documented in writing.
