  • What would you do

Say you're an auxiliary officer, and you're working a special event, you have your car blocking off traffic and someone drives real quick up to your door and stop. They get out and state that someone in another vehicle was driving recklessly in the parking lot and that they could hurt someone (2 people in this car). Now, maybe a minute and a half later, 2 different witnesses come up and say that the person thats telling you this is the person that was driving recklessly, and squealing her tires. You didn't witness any of it. The other driver is long gone.

What do you do? err.. I mean hypothetically, what would you do?

Ask some questions to make sure that there is no arrestable offense. Make sure that what ever the act is that is causing the complaint has ceased then send the parties on their way.

The offense that occurred was careless/reckless driving, but I didn't witness it. The other driver had already left, so I just sent her on her way.. didn't know if that was right but I didn't see any offenses.
