So I had the pleasure of taking a couple of my criminal justice classes with a sergeant that works for a local PD. One night in class he got up and told all of us about when he was involved in a shooting and how his bullet actually killed the suspect and how that affects him today. This was one of my favorite moments in class, not hearing about the heartache he suffers from killing someone but hearing stories about what cops really do and what they really go through. Anyways to get to my point I was wondering if there is any officers out there that had any war stories they would like to share whether it be a shooting, or saving someone’s life or whatever. Thanks for sharing! Be safe out there!

Read the existing threads here - many of them have what you are looking for. There are also a number of books that deal with 'war stories'."A man who has nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the existing of better men than himself."
John Stuart Mill

Make sure you read the following posts on this page. Good read to get you in the mindset of how things are and used to be. If you want another good read, search for the post where all the veterans talk of how things used to be. They're good.

Joseph Wambaugh is a good author for LAPD war stories. also True Blue by randy Sutton is great. It is a compilation of war stories for active and retired officers nationwide.

+1 on the above posts. I'd also suggest reading Cops (Their lives their own words) by Mark Baker and the two books The Killing Season and Homicide Special by Miles Corwin."I'm not fluent in the language of violence, but I know enough to get around in places where it's spoken."

"Into the Kill Zone; A Cop's eye view of deadly force" by David Klinger is another good oneThe posts on this forum by this poster are of his personal opinion, and his personal opinion alone
"Politicians are like diapers. They need to be changed often and for the same reason"
"We fight not for glory; nor for wealth; nor honor, but only and alone we fight for freedom, which no good man surrenders but with his life"
