    I am a new police officer and captains, chiefs, and others always say new show your badge off duty. and they always say never let anyone know that you are a cop. so my question is " What do you tell people when they ask what you do for a living?" please let me know .. thank you for you time

        "I work for the state". Ususally suffices for most people. Your neighbors will figure it out sooner or later.

        I think what they mean is not showing your badge. For example, most of us carry a badge in our wallet. Make sure it doesn't show when you pay for stuff in a store.

          I NEVER carry my badge off duty. Only when Im working and its part of my uniform. Police id and weapon thats it.

              Department policy requires me to carry both my badge and credentials when armed off-duty.

              My answer to what I do is that I am a "Life Choice Counselor" and that I help people evaluate their bad life choices.

                              yeah i am required to carry my badge and two piece credentials in the nice credential folder that my agency provides.
