  • what does an open case mean?

what does it mean when crimestoppers can only say the police have an open investigation going against the person you informed on?

does that mean they are going to make an arrest soon, or that they have really good information to go on?

or is every case an open investigation?

thnx. it's really important this person is arrested soon.

An open case means there is still and active investigation and that its a part of an officers or departments current case load. Does it mean that an arrest will be made soon? Maybe maybe not. Typically an investigator will work the case until all credible leads are exhausted. If charges can be filed, an arrest warrant will be applied for, and the case will be referred to the prosecutors office. If all credible leads are exhausted and there is insufficient evidence for probable cause that a specific individual committed the crime then the case is usually administratively cleared as unsolved or filed for no further action, at which time the case will go inactive (exact classification will vary by agency).
