No, it's true. Cops like donuts. After telling a guy that I was going to write him a parking ticket, he remarked to his friend that he should've given me a donut. I asked him, "What did you say?" but he didn't repeat it. I finished the ticket and handed it to him. That night I told my wife that cops like donuts, but the public isn't allowed to say it.Chivalry is not dead and the good still die young.

As noted, it's a stereotype from when donut shops were all that was open in the middle of the night. Whenever someone makes a donut comment to me on duty, my normal response is, "What? You don't like donuts? Everybody likes donuts!" The thing is, nobody has ever disagreed with me."He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

Some cops like doughnuts, some don't. I would imagine it's a similar demographic to the general public. I've seen more pastries in the church lobby and Jiffy Lube than I've ever seen at a police station.
I would say in this generation, the energy drink and 7-Eleven has replaced the doughnut and coffee shop. If you want to get out of a ticket, you best be passing me a sugar free Monster.

It's not that cops like doughnuts, it's that there are very few people walking the face of the earth that can do what we do, which means law enforcement agencies are eternally short-staffed, which means massive amounts of overtime. Cops are expected to be awake while making all that overtime money, and that requires caffeine.
Most people who are not cops, are ignorant of these matters. Before Starbucks, Monster, and Red Bull, the default place to get coffee was Dunkin Donuts. People that don't know any better, just assumed we were there for the doughnuts.Last edited by Aidokea; 03-05-2023, 09:45 AM.

Rarely will you see cops eating donuts in public these days because they know a photo of them sitting in a donut shop will become a FB meme and not in a flattering way.
That said, if a box of fresh and warm Krispy Kremes were delivered to almost any cop shop, they'd be gone within minutes.
That said, it's not the donuts causing all the health problems. It's the 2am gas station pizza, those gnarly slices of dough and cheese and salty pepperoni sitting under a heat lamp for several hours with hardly any nutritional value, the only food option available after a 10 hour shift. Years of eating that stuff will put your BMI in the red zone with a cholesterol level of 400, proving that it's not bullets or car wrecks that kills most; it's the calories and trans fats....
What happens after you die? Lot's of things happen after you die- they just don't involve you.

Suddenly, lights and sirens came out of all directions. I mean from every viewable access point to get to this shopping center. We thought the check cashing place was being robbed. We thought “oooo sh*t, it’s bout to get real.”
A few minutes later, we saw cops casually walking back to their vehicles with Dunkin’ Donuts bags and drinks. Turns out instead of tossing out their unsold food, DD calls the PD to come get them.
Is it a myth? Definitely not.
Is it a stereotype? Well we all eat donuts

LOL. I pm’ed you with the utmost respect saying I have plenty more stories but I won’t discuss in an open forum, and if you wanted to hear, I’ll gladly tell.
And that is actually a very fair and reasonable statement.
You could not even respect that and respond back. You jumped back to the comments. I don’t move like that.
So much for the integrity you preach on here.

"Turns out instead of tossing out their unsold food, DD calls the PD to come get them." Where'd you get that information?

As a store owner once told me free coffee was cheap insurance against becoming a robbery victim. A pot cost him pennies and it virtually guaranteeed that cops would be stopping by frequently during the night. He also had good prices on sandwiches.

Nowadays, many departments have labeled that free cup of coffee as a "gratuity" and have threatened to discipline (including terminate) a LEO who takes it...as if it's the same as taking hush money from a drug lord to look the other way."He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. I'm on day shift at this time, and I stop at convenience stores at least a couple of times per shift. We usually get complimentary drinks, and sometimes, I've received complimentary bananas, croissants, and breakfast sausage buns. Due to health, I'm cutting way back on sugar, carbs and caffeine, so I've been just getting 3/4 cups of decaffeinated coffee with 1/4 of the real stuff, along with a little almond 'creamer.' If health was no issue, I'd load up on the donuts, croissants, and other unhealthy delights.
