  • Vicky White

I’m still trying so hard to wrap my head around Vicky White and what she was thinking,………WTF?!

17 year career, her retirement, pension, reputation, and now her life for what?

    Me too.

I initially wrote it off because she was "just a jailer". Where I worked, they're not cops, the vetting process is obviously lax, and sometimes the only way I could tell the difference between the inmates and the jailers, was whether they were wearing an orange jumpsuit or a blue one.

But in her state, corrections officers apparently ARE cops.

Was she a "diversity hire" (being female) and never really should have been hired to begin with?

The whole situation is just nutty- if I'm understanding correctly, she liquidated her house way below market value to come up with $90K, and had less than $30K of that on her when they caught up to her. They had a bunch of guns, and planned to shoot it out with the police.

I dunno- she was 56 years old, maybe she had that postmenopausal psycho nut bitch disease.

Then there's the whole "Harold and Maude" aspect of it- she was old enough to be his mom.

If the genders were reversed, and either or both of them were attractive, that would be one thing, but this situation just makes no sense.

Vicky White reminded me of lonely and needy Joyce (Tilly) Mitchell, portrayed by Patricia Arquette in the excellent Showtime mini-series Escape at Dannemora.

Is it simply coincidence that Arquette could also play Vicky White... or a sign the cosmos has an epic sense of humor?

She was a stupid fool who got used by an inmate, thinking it was true “love”. She deserves her fate…although I was hoping for being a quad and disfigurement.

Anyone who befriends inmates needs to be removed from the job. Female COs need to relooked at. Seems they’ve done the lions share of assisted escapes.

It makes sense in a dysfunctional sort of way, especially since we are talking about a 50-something who is probably lonely (no significant other ever mentioned). The male half is a con artist, sweet talks her and gives her attention that she is not getting elsewhere and, boom, she is in love. He found his mark and cultivated it for all it was worth.

As noted above, a common denominator in these escapes seems to be middle-aged women.

Totally agree with that, I’m just thinking that as the reported Forum person at the facility, assistant director, with 17 years of exemplary work, she should have known better. She should have been aware of ALL of the innate ploys, even instructing the new hires as to what inmates are capable of,……

As with the other LEO escape / smuggler accomplices, I guess she was lonely, overlooked, unwanted, and excited by the attention he showered her with.

Eleven days later, he’s back in jail, NOTHING changed, except that she’s dead, and will be remembered only for the failed escape, and as a footnote in LEO corrections lore, responsible for revised inmate handling policy.

The next female LEO to fall for this will have a much better plan I’m sure; a fail proof plan, where they can live happily ever after,……..

Actually being female has nothing to do with it. I have been associated with state corrections on and off for over 40 yrs. Relationships happen in every aspect of Corrections from local jails to Federal penitentiaries . Those relationships also happen with males as well as females

The maximum security male state penitentiary I worked for (AVERAGED over 40 yrs) averaged about 1 relationship per year. Some were more serious than others but they were still an unlawful relationship.
A bit less that half of them were MALES in a male institution

The other facilities in my state were similar including at the female prison.

People NOT in the Corrections system only see the big name situations like this and the one in NY a few yrs ago..........

I posted this training article several years ago................................it fits this to a T

A three part training scenario..........I saw this years ago and was finally able to find a copy on a website........................Lengthly so its in three parts

It's happened. At my facility (before I worked there ) The CO even bought the convict the gun that he killed a prison secretary and her husband with

                        Seriously
I have worked with probably thousands of female Correctional Officers over the years. 99.999% of them have been good to excellent employees.

Percentage of idiots is no different than the males

I've never worked corrections, but generally speaking,
I believe that when it comes to making bad decisions because of sex, that men take the prize.

                            Yep

Many of my female ex-coworkers are livid about this.................................you know not so much sullying the badge but talking about how much harder this is for them to be effective at work

I keep reminding them that THEIR reputations are theirs & this is not a bad reflection on them....just on her.

My place had a couple guys back in the late 70's caught in different compromising sexual situations ON DUTY INSIDE THE FACILITY.

I'll always remember the case when I was a union executive board representative -------The agency was firing an officer because of his (non sexual) relationship with an inmate. The union was fighting the termination. The investigative Major called three of us out to his to review an audio tape of a conversation between the inmate who was at another facility now, and the officer. We did it at his home because it was "off the books" and he had a great audio system as the tape was not the best. The Major told us at the outset that we didn't want to "die on this hill" and he was going to show us why.

The conversation cemented his case and the termination grievance was withdrawn This was a very well respected officer who had held union office at one time.

The bottom line is MOST people don't hear about the majority of misconduct in a prison setting because usually when misconduct between officers and inmates is detected the administration wants to find out EXACTLY how much the security of the faculty has been compromised . The investigators use a GARRITY WAIVER (Garrity vs New Jersey ) to compel the officer into telling all the details of what might have been done to compromise the security. By compelling them to incriminate themselves those statements can not be used in a criminal charge.....

They CAN be used in administrative matters----So the officer gets fired for not following policy but we can't charge them and it doesn't bet publicized. It's kept behind bars just like most of our work

I "get" that Vicky probably had a low level of self-esteem, and that Casey "played" her, but it WILL, unfortunately, adversely affect the careers of female Corrections Officers / officials at ALL jurisdictional levels.

There have also, however, been FAR TOO MANY incidents of MALE CO acting criminally with inmates of whatever gender-identification.

                              Its that DAMNED free-will again!
