If you are an off duty cop, and are carrying, whatdo you have to do at airport security? Are you allowed to carry your gun or do you have to check it?

In a nutshell......and a very general one at that.....

    1. A lot of Federal LEOs can fly armed. It's up to agency policy if they can or not.

    2. Most locals cannot fly armed. They have to have a reason to do so (like going on-duty as soon as they get there or transporting a prisoner) and have a slew of paperwork completed.......plus get approval by the head of their agency to do so......

    3. If you don't fall in those two catagories, you either pack it up and ship it UPS or put it in your checked luggage.......just like everyone else.....

--In the two cases where one can fly armed as a LEO, there are certain things we have to do so that we can fly armed.......and in my opinion shouldn't be discussed on an open board.....

Actually, I believe an answer to this question would be a security risk and fall under "need to know" basis. The general public need not worry about officers (on or off duty) carrying a concealed weapon. After all, that is why it is concealed!

I will add that if an officer is CCW he/she must make a written and verbal declaration with security.

Enjoy your plane ride and I hope you never have to learn the answer.

Agreed. This is definitely "Need to Know Information". Not for the foums.

"For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." ~ Romans 13:4
