  • Lateral after 10 years

Just wondering if anyone has lateralled to a different department after 10 years with their current one? Preferably one where the pension system was different. Just getting some options. I tried searching but couldn't find anything more specific to what I was looking for.

The specifics of the pension systems will probably make a big difference to you. I know that, here in Ohio, it used to be quite easy to move between the two big LE pensions and laterals were common. That has changed dramatically and it's now much more difficult. It gets even more complicated if you lateral out-of-state (most states seem to recognize, at max, 5 years of out-of-state public employee retirement).

A friend of mine lateraled after nine years. She was one year short of vesting so it cost her some money and seniority, but she was sick of the cliques and bullying in the city.
