How difficult was it to get a job upon completion of the academy?

It is a very competitive field, especially if you are trying to get on in the burbs. If you are willing to relocate, your best bet is trying to get on a major metro dept., but that is no guarantee because they also wash out a large number of apps. It just makes the odds a little more in your favor if a dept. is hiring academy classes instead of one officer. So, in short, very difficult. Plan on having a day job and don't rule out taking the academy again, because I know a number of guys who couldn't get hired within the alloted time frame and lost their cert.
Personal Opinion: I have no use for open enrolement academies and view it as the state whoring themselves out for a buck. They didn't use to exist in my state, but now they do. I have seen guys in these academies who are so f'ing goofy nobody would ever hire them, but their background was okay and the check cleared...
