  • Question about a section on a stolen vehicle report (in GA)

Sorry if this sounds kinda stupid or obvious...I have a question about a section on an auto theft report (from Georgia). Under the property section, after the description of the car, there’s a subsection that says “Associated Subjects” with a heading under it labeled “Type.” There’s only one entry under the associated subjects and under type it says “Owner” and then next to it, gives the person’s name. Would this be the registered owner of the car? And if the car was recovered could it be released to anyone other than this person (at least without that person’s permission)? Again sorry if this sounds stupid.

Call the agency involved and ask them
Since some people need to be told by notes in crayon .......Don't PM me with without prior permission. If you can't discuss the situation in the open forum ----it must not be that important

My new word for the day is FOCUS, when someone irritates you tell them to FOCUS

The above, call the agency and ask. I'm sure someone in records can help you.

As for vehicle recovery, generally they're only released to the registered owners if found. Agency policies may vary.

That's liekely the registered owner of the vehicle. If that person comes in wanting the vehicle, once it has been cleared, then they will normally let that person sign for it. Anyone else, it's going to be up to the agency, their policy and or the investigator over the case.

But there is always exceptions. Call the department and ask them.

The towing companies we used would only release vehicles to registered owners or those showing them enough proof that they owned the vehicle since there are many instances where the person on the registration is not the actual owner. Also, sometimes, we would put a hold on towed vehicles where the company would have to contact us obtain requested information from the RO/proofed owner before it is released to them. I really felt badly for some people when they couldn't get their vehicles out soon after the impound due to storage fees adding up each day.
