Police uniforms, history of? Anyone know?

I work as a uniform vendor here in Norcal...Its not just a job to pay my bills, its really interesting and I enjoy it..anyway, my question is, does anyone know of, or know where I can find a book, something on the history of police uniforms in the United States?
I'm probably the only person out there that watches Cops just to check out different uniform specs throughout the country.

I am not aware of any single source, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Your best bet to track the evolution of police uniforms is to check out the web sites and museums of major departments. The basic evolution is that the American blue police uniform was copied from the London Metropolitan Police, who wore blue instead of red in order to distinguish their members from British Army troops on home duty. As an aside, soldiers in the army at that time were not thought of very highly and enlisted service was often thought of as a last refuge since the army recruited socially undesirables and common criminals, hence the desire for the police uniform to be distinct from the army's uniform.

Not the history of uniforms but the concept of them came from Sir Robert Peel iirc.

I'm coming into inspection month here and I'm up to my eyeballs in uniforms..lol. You guys know inspection comes at a certain time every year, yet I always get like last minute emergencies...like omg. its Hell for ur local uniform people!!!
