Depends on the state(s) you will be going through. The easiest way is to call the state Highway Patrol or AG's office. They should be able to explain the legal way to carry throught their state.

You can find the regulations on transporting firearms in the Wisconsin Deer Hunting Regulations, page 10. If you haven't got a copy, here's a link for you:

    http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/regs/Deer06.pdf

It's .pdf, so it may take a while to load....otherwise, here you go:

All firearms must be unloaded and completely enclosed within carrying cases designed to carry a firearm when in or on any vehicle whether moving or stationary.

Even if it's a backpack pocket with a lock on the zipper. No ammo in the same area as the weapon so the best idea is to keep the ammo in your glove compartment. Ill check out what Wis. law is on that but I'm sure it's not much diffrent than Michigan. If the law is less than carrying it in your trunk or without ammo around I would still suggest to do that just for safety purposes.

http://www.wsll.state.wi.us/topic/firearms.html looks like this site gives you a lot of web sites to choose from to find out info. Stay informed and up to date because laws can change real fast and it looks like there are alot of laws up in the air right now with firearms in Wisconsin.
    Exactly.
