How long is the certification good for?

Hello. After I graduate POST, how long is the POST certification good for? Is it for life? Say I wasn't able to find a job as a LEO for a while, or decided to finish up schooling and wait a few years to get on with a department having a Bachelors degree, or maybe join the Military, would I need to re-certify?

How long is certification good for?

The answer to the question will depend on the state you live in. In Alabama, the certification is good for two years after you leave active law enforcement.Check with POST in the state you live in.

Utah, it is 4 years, but you have to have at least 40 hours of training each year to keep it active.
