Parking Ticket on Campus

I received a parking ticket last semester when I parked in the wrong residential zone. My residential zone outside my dorm was full so I parked in the closest residential zone. I was given a 50$ ticket and my request for an appeal was turned down because they said I could have parked in the gravel overflow parking lot (the one clearly marked "Upperclassmen Commuter Parking Only). Anyway, I paid the ticket. Does the ticket go on record outside of campus? Like, if an officer ran my plates, would this ticket come up?

I am a university police officer. Parking tickets (no matter who issues them)do not go on your driving record but there is a record kept with the agency that issued it and itis public information. In theory, a prespective employer (or parent ) could contact the police department or parking enforcement to find out how many tickets you were issued.

However, if a university/college police officer issues a traffic ticket, it is no different than if it were issued by a city, county, or state police officer. Those do go on your driving record.

That sucks. It was a stupid ticket to begin with and now it is on my record.

It depends on the college/university...

If your campus has a Police dept. with full powers, the ticket would be as Tennsix describes.

But, if you just have a Security or 'Public Safety' non-LEO department, as where I work, the ticket likely doesn't hold any real weight. Ours are internal only - that is, we don't submit them to any gov't agency. Worst we can do is place a hold on your academic records until ticket paid (no grades, diploma, trancsript, or registration for next term) OR (rarely) we can boot/tow after 3 unpaid tickets on campus. This assumes we know who you are (i.e., your tag # is in our computer) - 2/3 tickets we write are just paper with nothing else to go on.

You just get denied the ability to register as if you had any other late fees.
Plus OSU traffic & parking LOVES to impound cars. They are the second biggest user of the BMV data base in the State of Ohio beaten only by the statewide Ohio Highway Patrol.

Yeah, they hold our records if we don't pay.
I don't mind paying...if I owe the ticket. But I feel that I am entitled to a parking space outside of my residence. And most of the cars parked in my dorm's parking lot aren't even supposed to be there. I think I took a census over a few days and 30 out of the 55 cars there were upperclassmen commuters, 15 were residential for that hall, 5 were residential for other halls, 4 had no parking decals, and one completely made up his own parking space. But the problem is, my dorm hall is the furthest hall from the heart of the school, so they never even bother to go there. The residential zone I parked in the day I got the ticket was closer to the school and they always hang around in there.
A lot of the campus police that give tickets are students trying to meet a quota, so they will give you a ticket for anything. Our car's tires can't even touch the yellow line. Or we can't park backwards. My friend got a ticket for being over the yellow line when it was the car next to him over the yellow line and not his car. How that happened...I don't know.
And 50$ for a first offense? Man, if I would have known that was going to happen, I would have just parked in a faculty parking spot right outside of my classes and made that ticket worth it.
