It's actually a seized Lear, but it's only for commuting purposes.

So then if they are required to respond to emergencies, the cars would also have emergency lights, and siren.

Many federal government law enforcement agencies have take-home cars. Since many of them are on-call investigators that is how it is justified. You want them to be able to respond to emergency calls in a timely manner.

Take home policies vary from department to department. Ours can be used off duty anywhere in the county, as long as we take enforcement action should it be warranted. Therefore if you do use it off duty you cannot wear shorts of flip flops, and must have badge, ID, gun, radio, and cuffs all in the car. A lot of times it is more of a pain in the *** that anything. Other agencies have a to and from work policy.

I'm just a poor city cop, but most every Fed from an alphabet agency I know has got a take home g-ride. As far as not using them for personal business, that's almost universally ignored. I once found myself at a meeting with some of my federal bretheren and afterwards we adjourned to lunch. One agent offered to drive. Before four of us piled into his g-ride, he had to take his kid's booster seat out of the back and put it into the trunk.

In SC, you will find that a large majority of Agencies have take homes, and most SO's have full personal use...with a few limitations. With mine, the take home was considered to be part of the salary, however when one was put on light duty for any reason (OJI, surgery, etc.) it was yanked from you with no other compensation and an Officer was left pretty much screwed if he didn't own a second vehicle.

a lot of agencies have take home squads..some encourage the officers to use them for off duty use..as long as they take enforcement action while they are off duty in their squad..likeyou are on the way to the store to pick up milk and the drunk driver gets in front of you, you are expected to go 10-8 and arrest them. Some agencies that have take homes do not allow their officers to use it for off duty use. Some federal agencies do have take home like US marshal service...some have lights and some don't.

Here at the SO the Sheriff usually allows Patrol Deputies who live in the county to take a vehicle home (only have marked) ...the Sheriff, Undersheriff and the LT all have take home vehicles

    Take home vehicles???

Do some federal law enforcement officers (secret service, FBI) get take home vehicles? I heard that there are issued vehicles for work purposes that they can take home, but they just aren't supposed to use for personal use, like picking up the kids, etc. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, are they basically like unmarked squads w/ hidden lights and siren, or are they just a completely stock vehicle?

Beside FLE, do any officers, other than K9, get take home vehicles? Thanks for any answers
