  • Police Ties ????

Hey everybody, I have a question I've been curious about for awhile. I work in security/loss prevention/whatever the hell you want to call it, but basically I'm a security officer.
Part of my uniform is a tie, but it's a clip on. The reason they gave me for it being a clip on is that it is neccesary for safety (aggressor in an altercation could use it to strangle you if it were a conventional tie)

This logic would also apply to police officers. So....my question to those of you that wear ties is...........are most police uniform ties clip ons?

For safety reasons as you stated, yes.

Before our ties were made optional, ours were all clip-ons.

I knew a guy who hated the clip-ons because his collars were too tight...before collar extenders were available. His wife was handy at sewing, so he took a regular black tie, tied it, then had the back of it cut and velcro sewed on... I guess he made the accomodating measurements for it to work out right anyhow... it looked great. Too great. Seems he used a wide tie to do it with and the Bosses knew it was not a crappy looking 4th generation used clip-on right away, and made him go home for the issued one.
Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Our "Class A" uniform is a clip on tie. We only have to wear it in a for a formal event. But should we decide to wear it on the street its a clip on for safety reasons.

We have clip-ons and velcro fastened ties on our uniform allotment. They're only required when wearing the winter uniform with a L/S shirt, and even then only for parades or funerals. Turtlenecks or dickies are authorized with winter unis and most everybody wears them.
