  • Seeking advice from current or former Detention Officers

I recently applied with a Sheriff's Dept. here in Texas and my application is currently in background. I'm looking to be a Detention Officer hoping that as soon as I become of age they will sponsor me into their academy and eventually become a Deputy.

Anyhow, I'm just looking for some advice for the position. Is there anything I can do to stand out and show my potential? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could start by going to the TCLEOSE web site and reading all the course material.
"Respect for religion must be reestablished. Public debt should be reduced. The arrogance of public officials must be curtailed. Assistance to foreign lands must be stopped or we shall bankrupt ourselves. The people should be forced to work and not depend on government for subsistence." - Cicero, 60 B.C.

I don't know. Most places that need detention officer just need someone to keep a uniform warm, so they aren't going to be too picky as long as you can meet the requirements.

As with any agency just show them you can deal with people and keep a level head. Also speaking another language always helps.

        Just an update:

Through a reliable source I have got the job...just waiting on the phone call to confirm. Sheriff's Dept. is now just waiting for an opening to come up.
