I bought a pair of extra large handcuffs, if those don't fit, I also carry shackles and flexcuffs. So, far I havent run into anyone that I haven't been able to cuff using the large cuffs, but if you do, probably should be very, very nice to them, because if they are that big, cuffs aren't going to help you much anyway.

Never had somebody too big for HINGE cuffs but we have flex-cuffs if it ever happened.

I carry a pair of Peerless hinged cuffs (in addition to my Peerless chain cuffs), which are oversized. I've used them several times as ankle shackles, because they're so big, so I have yet to meet someone that was too big for them.

I carry a set of leg shackles in my bag and use a regular set of cuffs to shorten the chain. I also carry about a dozen flexi-cuffs in my duty gear.

            Funny you asked...

My partner and I caught some Burglars with the safe in their car leaving the area of an invasion burglary. One of the guilties (notice I didn't say suspect) had wrists so large that leg shackles had to be used. Of course, we waited for PSP to arrive for that because ours were in the SGTs car from a transport he had done at the end of the previous shift. This guy had a long wait proned out I ordered my own set since then and a set of oversized.

I arrested a 600+ pound guy for DWI. Only way to cuff him was to use leg irons as cuffs.

Me: Nah, your just too fat

That really made the suspect mad... Good god, glad I waited until he was in cuffs to **** him off, big fella.

He refused which disappointed me, I was really curious. The really fun part was transporting him. He would not fit into a Crown Vic with a cage so I had to get a wagon. Still a tight fit and he couldn't lift his leg high enough so we had to "roll" him in.

When they whine to me about them being too tight, I tell em that they are new cuffs and haven't been streched out yet. They need to be broken in.

Im sometimes accused of being a smart***......I wonder where they come up with that????

We arrested a number of steroid abusers, who could not make their arms come together behind their backs. Solution: 2 pair of cuffs, one on one wrist, lock the other empty one to an empty from the other cuff set, then on their other wrist.
I used leg irons a lot, sometimes as cuffs.
