I'm unsure how the "code" works. Are you only aloud to talk about a case with the officers involved or can you talk about a case with any LEO? Sorry for spelling mistakes

My best thing to tell you is if the department wants you to know what is going on in a specific case, and your pretty good about keeping your mouth shut they will tell you themselves.

But if you went involved in the investigation, ask the officer that you are with.

If you are ever unsure, do not say a anything. I have seen more than a few explorers/cadets get in trouble for too saying too much.

NEVER talk to the media.

It really depends on the type of case. If you are talking an assault or theft arrest or something simple usually it's all fair game. Ongoing investigations, bigger fish kind of stuff usually stays need to know at least until it's done.

If you are asking because you want to be able to talk about stuff, and you are an Explorer just observing, I would ask the officer you are shadowing about that case.

I think a good rule of thumb for you would be, if in doubt dont say anything. If you get a rep for having loose lips pretty soon you won't know anything to worry about whether you can tell about.
