Anyone dealt with NAMBLA?

My girlfriend and I were watching Law and Order SVU, and they had an episode dealing with NAMBLA members. I told her this was a real thing, and tried to remember some prominent cases involving them, but drew a blank. The Jeffrey Curley case in Mass, but couldn't think of any others. I think Bill O'Reilly did a piece on them a while back. She's from a country (Ireland) where they don't have something that outrageous, and wanted to know how they managed to exist as an organization, and how someone who represented them (I do remember they have a lawyer, and must "recruit" somehow) wasn't breaking the law. I couldn't explain it, and I have an image to think of .

Someone tell me how they can have a lawyer who represents them pubklicly without being arrested, why they don't just use him as a starting point to find the members, and if anyone has investigated it's members or other organized pedophiles. Thanks.

Without doing any research, the last big case I remember was that MA case you mentioned. If you're really interested, a Google search would probably bring up some interesting links. But, I haven't seen much in the news about them lately.

Of course, there was that South Park take-off on them. It was pretty funny, if you can find humor in something like that, South Park will do it.

I was living in MA when that whole Jeffrey Curly incident happened. Taken from the Internet: Jeffrey Curley was killed on Oct. 1, 1997. Salvatore Sicari was convicted of first-degree murder in the case, while Charles Jaynes was convicted of second-degree murder and kidnapping. Such a sad case. These sickos had a NAMBLA magazine in the trunk of their car.

Jaynes did not simply read NAMBLA's materials and ponder its message. He and Salvatore Sicari actively sought a boy with whom to copulate. They picked 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley of Cambridge, Massachusetts. They lured him into their car as he played outside his home in October 1997. When Curley resisted their sexual advances, they choked him to death with a gasoline-soaked rag. Then they took the boy's body across state lines to Jayne's apartment in Manchester, New Hampshire. They molested the cadaver and stuffed it into a cement-filled Rubbermaid container. Finally, they crossed state lines again into Maine, whereupon they tossed Jeffrey Curley's remains into the Great Works River, from which it was recovered within days. Jaynes and Sicari were convicted of these crimes in 1998, for which they are serving life sentences.

Do a google search and I'm sure their website will pop up. I'd do it, but I'm a paranoid bastard and only look up deviant things at work where they are job related.

At any rate, I believe that the organization is completely legal, as well as most of their litereature (love that 1st ammendment), so having a publicly declared attorney is no big deal. It's like the KKK, or the Peyote Way Church of God, or the Democratic or Republican parties. As long as they are not "practicing what they preach" their existence and propaganda is legal. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be strung up...

Webjeep is correct. You know what is funny (I guess) is that I found out NAMBLA was an actual organization LAST NIGHT. Anyways, I read a little about the ACLU defending NAMBLA. They state right off the bat they don't support sexual activity between adults and children. What they were defending was the speech involved. However disgusting and scary it is (there is plenty of scary/disgusting stuff on the net) it is legal. Members of that organization better be smart enough to realize that if they touch the wrong kid, just about any kid, they are in for a tragic surprise.

On a side note; that NAMBLA web site provided an anecdote that was actually quite disturbing. It basically portrayed sexual activities between a man and a boy as beautiful. Sick! Argh. I very much love our first amendment. Even if the worst type of people take advantage of it.

it was a joke referring to the unusual amount of catholic priests being accused of molesting young boys. there is no point past that. youre reading into things.

Thanks for the replies. I remember the Jeffrey Curley case very well, being from Mass. The two bastards who killed him came to the attention of the police when his older brothers went after Salvatore Sicari. You may be pleased to know that on Charles Jaynes' first night in jail, a trusty poured boiling water on him as he slept in his cell. What happened to that poor kid was the sort of thing that you never forget, and after that, the death penalty failed by one vote in the Mass legislature. Not that it would have ever been used, anyway.

The ACLU has no shame at all.

I think that motto is from the "Rene Guiton Society" [sic] which is similiar to NAMBLA except that it caters to men who like to have sex with female children. Another wonderful bunch of people that need retroactive abortions.

And, the most convoluted idea is that they can be rehabilitated (unless of course you mean rehabilitation by putting a round through their head).

Try and picture yourself in a world where most people were child molesters and you were locked up for not being one. If they tried to rehabilitate you as a condition for release, which scenario is more likely.
A: That you actually start to buy their line and decide to molest children yourself in the future, or
B: You just say whatever you think they want to hear to get released, and then try to not get caught by them again.
