  • Any Detectives Here?

What kind of work do detectives do? Do you go looking for criminals or is it just office work.

I was an Investigator for U.S. Customs. The bad side was, one day in the field generated about 3 days of paperwork. I had informants, did surveillence, followed up leads, generated my own cases, and followed up on cases started by the Customs Inspectors.

I work in Assaults/Sex Crimes. Mostly office work and getting out and tracking down witnesses (although usually we have them come to us). The only time we go out to get suspects is if we want to try to get a statement prior to signing a warrant. Otherwise, patrol or warrants detail picks them up and brings them to us or takes them straight to jail.
