  • does everyone write a report

Does every officer that responds to a call write a report or is it just the officer first on the scene.

Out here, The first officer that shows up on scence writes the report. In other words say your stop someone for a traffic violation. They take off running on foot. blah blah, your the only person chasing him untill back-up arrives, your the one writing the report.

In my department it really depends on the nature of the call. It also depends on whether or not the other officer(s) did anything significant on the scene ie: locating evidence or something.

The call is assigned to somebody by the dispatcher, then if other officers roll that way it the report will be handled by the unit assigned, but the others might end up writing a supplement.
If you knew you would fight for you life tomorrow, would you change the way you trained today?

In many cases, the first officer at the scene writes the report. However, it all depends on the call. For example, you respond to an armed robbery in progress and the assisting officer end up shooting the suspect. Then, you write a report based on what you saw and encountered, and the other officer write another report based on what he/she encountered.
