  • What were you before a Cop?

So what was everyone doing before switching to a career in LE, and what made you decide to take the jump?

      A Soldier, a barista, a DBA, a house-husband...

      I was bored.

I was in data processing for 22 years and a bank teller when I couldn't find a computer job after a brief period of unsuccessful self-employment. I was, and continue to be, a pastor/teacher/chaplain.

Security guard and before that, amusement park cashier. This is only the third job I've ever had.

I worked a lot of jobs before Law Enforcement, especially through High School and post-High School. But RIGHT before I was a cop, I was a Land Surveyor.

The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed.

I was in the USMC after high school and became an officer after the USMC. While in, a buddy of mine was a reserve for Orange County California S.O., which he spoke about often. I went on a ride-along with a large PD there in Orange County where I had the time of my life. That night focused me to pursue the job I have now.

During high school I worked moving irrigation pipe and hauling hay. After high school I worked at Albertson's for a year stocking shelves and bagging groceries. I then went to college full-time, sent myself through the police academy and worked mall security for three months. I got hired with the DoD (Navy) police and then my agency.

Commercial fisherman, college student. I had several friends/friends parents who were police officers and it appealed to me as a career.
