  • Current LEO/ failed psych

I am a current LEO here in Michigan. I took another job on a campus. I have already been working here 2 months. They sent me to a psych last week to be recommended to carry a firearm. I have already passed the MMPI2 4 times, with no problems. The only thing I can conclude is that I finished the test 2 hours before everyone else. Yes I did rush, but did so because I am used to it. (Stupid) I know. The interview portion the Doc was cool. He just shot the **** with me and told me stories about his police days. Concluding it saying have fun with it" I am only think my dumb *** messed something up rushing. The chief here stated he would re-test me in a year ahh! Any thoughts?

Nope---------------------you would be surprised how many experienced officers fail the psych.

It happens all the time----------------they then send you to an interview with the shrink and that clears up the problem.
Since some people need to be told by notes in crayon .......Don't PM me with without prior permission. If you can't discuss the situation in the open forum ----it must not be that important

I've read somewhere that most police officers fail/ would fail the entry psych after only 2-3 years on the job. You don't think the same way a "normal" person does anymore.

Yeah I'll be testing for the Sheriff's soon, so now I am wigged out. I shouldn't be but it does worry me a bit.

A friend of mine has "failed" 4 times. Each time he has had an interview with the shrink and moved on with the process. He HAS been hired for other agencies

OK..What is the liability on the current agency in an officer tests for a different agency and fails the psych?? Is some anti-police attorney going to try to use it in a use of force complaint????

                maybe

As long as the officer PASSED the test for the current agency they can fall back on that.-----------

I have no clue, but I have long suspected that there is no "pass" for the psych test. Everyone is some level of crazy. I suspect the spectrum goes from "I like to thump peanuts off the head of my junk" crazy, to "I like to burn kittens while thumping peanuts off the head of someone elses junk" crazy. They just try to determine where in the crazy spectrum you fit in.

That is really not too far off from true.

The MMPI can be tweaked to get a certain profile. Say the Local PD wants a different type of personality than the Sheriff's Office wants...........the test can be edited to show that personality preference.

So really , there is no pass or fail . There is meeting the profile set by the agency or the licensing agency.
