So i am scheduled to start the academy in october, the academy will last 8 months and be from 8am-12:30pm m-f, I currently work 24 hour shifts (0600-0600) on a 911 ambulance in the houston area and am realizing that this job will not allow me to do the academy. So for all the guys that went through a non agency based academy, what jobs did you guys do during the academy? Looking for new jobs that will still allow me to pay my bills and being a tech in the emergency room seems like its a tough job to obtain these days.

Find something that will be flexible with your availability during the academy. Eight months may seem like a long time, but it will go by relatively quickly. Finding a job that you will like is less important than finding a job that will be flexible. If your goal is ultimately to get into LE, you will make that decision without a problem. Before I got hired, pretty much every job I had revolved around cars in some way.
