My Sheriff even bought and assigned me a fast/sporty car back in '97.

Black pursuit package Camaro. Yes it was fast and sporty. Did I mention that it was F-A-S-T?

Had loads of fun in that car.

I called it my "super-go-fast-catchem-mobile".

Loved the ads in LE publications back then showing a po-lice Camaro sittitng on the side of the road with the caption, "Here speeder, speeder."

Many years ago during an oral board I was asked what type of vehicle I drove and if it was modified.

I felt it was irrelevant then as I do now.
As "Just Joe" stated "your driving record is important; the car you drive is not".

Everyone (except for cops) should be absolutely prohibited from owning sports cars, muscle cars, fast and furious drifters, rice burners with spoilers and buzz mufflers, streetracers and all other types of go-fast machines. It's all for the children. If we can save just one ya know...maybe we could institute background checks and waiting periods and limits on gas tank capacity. Anything over 7 gallons would be a felony and we could kick in your garage door with our jackboots and seize your cars. A federal registry of fast car owners would be required... Wow, the possibilities are endless

Z28s are ok to drive.....if we see you drive up in a 'smart' car or a Prius your application is going to fall in the shredder

Police officers are citizines and can own and/or drive whatever type of persoanl vehicle they can persoanlly afford. There are no restrictions.

Candidates for law enforcement should be ready to appropriately address why they drive a high performance vehicle. Some individuals who own such vehicles are often frought with many traffic violations.

If you are one of those who owns a high performance vehicle and are considering a law enforcement career, be wary and prepared!

No, you can only drive an old police car, and it has to have a push bumper, spot light, and lots of antennas, that why people always know you're the police. You should go ahead and get yours now, but make sure you add some clear lens LED lights so we know you are serious.

I'm a car person; I love the 90's classics like the Trans Am, Pontiac....it's great to hear they won't judge me as a hoodlum just for owning that kind of car.

A lot of cops are car guys. As long as you're not out there street racing and have a clean driving record, you're good to drive whatever you want. We do have a policy that we have to keep our personal vehicles clean and in good repair (i.e. don't leak oil all over the department's lot), but that's it.
