I do not want to major in criminal justice because I cannot make a career out of it.

However, I may apply for sheriff reserve again and would like advice on which of these courses (as general electives) would be most beneficial to that end,

You can't make a career out of it????? I am confused, why waste your time in the reserves or class if you have no intent to make it a career?

When I say career, I mean something that I am paid for. That means going full-time, doing the academy, etc.

Why do part-time? To help out.

Here's a thought. Take some courses, just about any courses, which you like. Any legitimate area of study will be beneficial to you. I would avoid nonsense courses such as "Aides Awareness" or similar non starter studies. Take a look at Political Science, Business Administration, essentially anything which is of interest to you.

What he said. Also, take courses from a brick and morter school--not an on-line for profit. Additionally, I don't think anyone expects reserves to have any type of significant law enforcement background or education since it is not your full time job.

I take it you are already enrolled in college and looking for "fill in " classes as electives to go with your already decided major.

If any of those classes sound like fun to you --------------take them as electives. Heck you can take Underwater Basket Weaving (if you think it would be a fun class) as a elective and get credit towards your degree.

Good luck with becoming a reserve. The program really helps many departments and gives people who, for many reasons, can't become full time officers give back to their community.
Since some people need to be told by notes in crayon .......Don't PM me with without prior permission. If you can't discuss the situation in the open forum ----it must not be that important
