  • Your favorite name for a criminal

I have my own resident Ask a Cop , but I'm interested in what others might use to describe those that have broken the law. I did a search before posting this, but if I'm being redundant, please forgive me.
I thought it would be interesting to see what others around the country might use as a descriptor.

So, besides perp, d**chebag, lowlife, ect...what's your favorite word instead of, "the perp"?

I don't really have a preferred overall term, how ever I do like to assign nicknames to memorable arrestees. Capt. McScabby and Betsy Wetsy come to mind.
      I miss you, Dave.

While there's a time and place for more colorful expressions to refer to suspects, but since I am an investigator and it's my job to investigate what the suspect has/hasn't done and hopefully gain their cooperation I find that calling them by their actual name (and them showing some dignity) goes a long way.

I was working out one day and having a casual conversation with another member....He informed me that he was retired when I asked what he does for a living. Then, I asked what he used to do for a living, and he replied, "I took out the city's trash for 22 years." My reply, "Oh....you were a police officer."

This profession is not for people looking for positive reinforcement from the public. Very often it can be a thankless job and you can't desire accolades, because those are not usually forthcoming. Just do your job to the best of your ability and live with the decisions you've made.
