Catching Speeders

Have any of you caught someone speeding before and after you talk to them they ask to see the radar? Is this something they have a right to be able to see? I know that officers have pulled people over without the use of radar before so I'm just wondering if people can actually ask to see the radar?

I don't have to show them the rader. I can if I want, but I'm not required.

We dont use radar but I wouldnt let them come back to my car and see it.

Yes, they have asked......and if I have a hand held radar gun I always oblige.....usually it is an automatic ticket if someone asks though....

I'm not in the business of lying...if I pull you over for speeding and I give you an exact speed, I'm telling the truth...you asking to see my radar gun, to me, is insulting my integrity.....

There is no legal requirement that we show a violator the radar.

Most of my stops are on the interstate so it would not be safe for them to be wondering outside their car. I told one guy that and said he would follow me to a parking lot so he could see it. He was denied again.

One thing you can do when they ask to see your radar, unplug the display unit and take it up there and say, "See! Pretty cool isn't it?"

I always show the laser, but it is cordless and easily moved. Also, AMW315, aren't all tickets automatic?

Ah, the mindset of a true motor cop.....

As long as it is not a matter of officer or motorist safety, I gladly show folks the laser. It instantly changes their story from "I wasn't going that fast" to "well that wasn't me".

I never locked in the speed for them to see it. You lose your audio track when you lock in the speed (or at least you used to).

I dont have a RADAR now but at my last agency, the last person to see it was a 19 year old chick who saw 112 mph locked in there from behind the cage in the back seat.

they can ask, i mostly say no and why would I make that up?
....ive shown it a couple times but then usually ask them, "how do you know this is YOUR speed??"

Agree with the posts about the accusation of lying. Tell me Im lying and I'll hang paper on you every time and advise you to take it to court.

Never been to court on a RADAR/LASER ticket yet, in 9 years
