  • Taking care of your uniform?

Just a short question. What steps do you do to take care of your uniform? Do you have it washed after every shift? Do you get it dry cleaned after every shift? Every other shift, or do you just throw it on the ironing board until you think it should be washed?

    Thanks for your answers.

    Dry clean only.

Depending on your calls, two uniforms can last a week. Hopefully you don't get the dead body call on a Monday!
This profession is not for people looking for positive reinforcement from the public. Very often it can be a thankless job and you can't desire accolades, because those are not usually forthcoming. Just do your job to the best of your ability and live with the decisions you've made.

        Dry cleaning only.....

How long they last depends on the shift and time of year, as well as what type of calls you are handling ect.

A dead body call at the beginning of the week will result in a run to the dry cleaners the next morning.

I wash mine in the washer and dry it on Hot, I throw it on the ironing board when needed.

Normally 2 unifroms will last for the week, dpending on calls and heat

Machine wash in a pinch (carefully following washing instructions) but usually dry clean.

We were told to wash our uniforms when we get them new in a cup of white vinegar to set the dyes so that they won't fade as fast. I always wash my uniforms after one wear; when you're in the jail you get tons of filth rubbed off on you...

Blauer pants fade very quickly. Shirts have lasted quite a while.

Machine wash mine, a couple last a week, usually don't need to iron them again until several washes.

                    .

I used to Dry clean my uniform once a year and then wash and iron myself the rest of the year.

Now that I wear an outer-vest carrier, I just wash and then iron the sleeves.

                    .

Yes, I heard it's usually best to get it dry cleaned the first couple of times and then just wash it yourself carefully.

Thanks for all of the answers so far. A week for most of you is usually 4 work days or 5?

                        Dry clean only.

Sometimes I forget to take it to the cleaners, the wife is gracious enough to wash and iron it while I get ready for work.

Maybe if the cheap beer gets to them.
