I was just wondering how old was the youngest person in when you went to your academy. I'm just curious because I'm 19 and I'm in the TSU. I just wanted to know if there has been even 18 year olds.

What is TSU ? (Traffic Safety Unit?) Also I thought the minimum age for ALL Federal LE was 21, because you can not possess a handgun if you are under 21. But i went to the CBP website and did not see a minimum age. Someone please explain ?????Comment

TSU would be the Training and Scheduling Unit. There isn't a minimum age for federal law enforcement either.Comment

There is no minimum age, you only have to meet the minimum requirements. There are quite a few positions in which all that is needed is 1 year of full time work experience or a degree or a combination of both.Comment

minimum age
Maybe not for Border Patrol, but USPP is 21.
I also do not understand how they get around that whole need to be 21 to purchase and a handgun or ammunition under federal law (Gun Control act of 1968). I've googled, searched, and can not find the answer. If anyone can fill me in, and provide to appropriate cites, please let me know, because I do know there are some Depts. that hire officers at age 19, and somehow they get around the whole 21 thing.
see link below:
Established in 1975, the Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the "lobbying" arm of the National Rifle Association of America. ILA is responsible for preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals in the legislative, political, and legal arenas, to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.Comment

As I stated, there isn't a minimum age set by federal law. Some agencies may put a minimum age on the announcement, but there isn't anything in the US Code that says a LEO must be a certain age. I briefly looked and saw 18 USC 922(q)2(B)vi - LEO's are exept from the possession law while on duty, but I'm assuming there is a CFR that goes into more detail.Comment

The minimum age thing hasn't been changed, it's been like that for USBP so I fail to see how the standard was lowered in that aspect of it. With that said, I will put up some of these "kids" with one or two years work experience against some of the nerdy, straight out of college, no-street-smarts-whatsoever, people being hired as special agents by some other agencies.
BTW, Jacob, for crying out loud, you have been told a bunch of times now about honorfirst.com. ALL of these questions are answered there, in the FAQ and in the forums. If you're gonna be in law enforcement you are going to have to learn to find information on your own. Might as well start now.Last edited by yellowreef; 09-14-2009, 03:23 PM."You don't want the truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall...
