Are there any liberal or semi-liberal officers out there? I'm a sophmore looking to become a police officer, but i'm semi-liberal, and I was wondering how well that would work with other officers?

That's exactly what I was going to say.

Once you get out of your parents' house or out of college (or both).... whatever it is you're doing..... and you actually start working and living on your own, you will see things in a much different light, my friend. HOWEVER, I know for a fact that *I* cannot convince you of that.... no one here can.... you will learn on your own in time once you start working in this field. As I'm sure you've already seen (since you're asking), there aren't too many liberal LEOs out there.... but there are a few.

It all depends on the quantity of liberalness you entail. Beyond 37.5% of liberalosity, you begin to reach the stage of bleedingheartness that naturally inhibits braincell from functioning to the degree necessary to do such things as making arrests based upon probable cause, employing use of force beyond wristlocks and booking suspects for offenses involving "victimless" crimes. People in this range of liberalness can still find employment in such fields as social work, psychology, teaching professions (if they've managed to avoid working outside the academic environment) and politics.

Liberals find it very difficult to apply lessons learned in basic academy training to situations encountered in the field, when "real" people are affected by such things as incarceration beyond eight hours, driver's license suspensions, or hurt feelings. Liberals hate prejudice and know that there's no one more prejudiced than every red necked, conservative, neo-con that's ever stepped out of a cave. They can recognize these evil people immediately and need no evidence to verify the fact, beyond the presence of a Republican bumper sticker on their cars.

They can spot them in the locker rooms of any police station too, by the presence of any weapon being carried that wasn't issued to the officer and any shooting ability beyond the minimum qualifying score. Failure to qualify, is a sign of one's humanity and goodness. Accidentally shooting one's firearm or losing it, means the officer is not only a fellow liberal, but potential management material. He/she can only demonstrate excellence beyond this by engaging in sports activities with known gang members and losing!

Don't worry fellow liberal, there's lots of room for others of our kind in law enforcement! (As long as you don't really do any!)

I know my department has a policy not to talk about politics with coworkers, but I don't know how well that goes in the officer ranks, since I am not one yet. I can tell you that while I am quite conservative, I don't talk about politics with anyone even outside of work though because I have my opinion on things, they have thiers, and niether is going to change.

A liberal in law enforcement is just a conservative who hasn't gotten his a** kicked in a fight yet! We're not liberal or conservative, we're just right.

I was a liberal college student once.....Then they handed me the badge...10 years later I got a 10 out of 10 on the republican test on this forum. Trust me some of the liberalness will bleed out. I didn't realize what really goes on behind the scenes until I had this job. Just like my grandpa used to say, "If we do our jobs well son, the people will never know what a55hats their own neighbors are."

There are lots of officers who are liberals when they start the job, but not too many who are still liberals after a few years on the job.

The view is better from the street than from the ivory tower.
