  • Buying police lights

I'm in the process of re-doing my room and I'm thinking of stuff to do to my room that'd kinda make it look cooler. I was wondering if there's any laws regarding me buying police lights and putting them in my room. I have no need for a siren just the lights. Is there anything I should be aware of too? I just want lights like these.

1 light bar and other lights.

And maybe some lights that you use for under the grill. I'm 13, I don't have a car and my parents wouldn't let me put police lights on their car, I have no bad intentions I just want to do something cool to my room. Any advice would be great, thanks.

...I know you really want to be in Law Enforcement but seriously this is like scary how obsessed you seem to be! It's okay to be interested but this is like up and beyond...

No, I just thought turning on police lights in my room would be a nice conversation starter, among showing it off because no one that I know would ever think of doing something stupid like this. Oh keep in mind. I'm not putting hundred of lights and stuff, just at most 4 and maybe a lightbar.

I don't think there is any law in any state that will forbid you from lighting a room inside a private residence anyway you want to. Just wire up safe. I know some dj equipment comes with revolving lights.
Putting lights on a POV is a big no-no. Even if they are not hooked up.

Save your money and go to eBay and look for stuff and buy it off of there.

That particular unit you've posted isn't cheap. I don't have any problems with you wanting some emergency lights. When I was 13 I would've liked them too. Heck, in fact, since I live away from the road and sight of neighbors I, from time to time, walk outside and turn mine own just to watch them strobe. LOL. Others will needle me about that here, but it's true. On scene, I never get to actually watch the flash patterns or the pretty blue color. You might have trouble getting them though. Some companies may want ID or something. Here it's illegal for anyone other than law enforcement, coroners, or emergency management to possess blue lights. Fire, rescue, and ambulances use red.

www.galls.com Try that site out. There are a lot cheaper sites out there, but it will give you some ideas of things that might fit your space and budget better.

Also keep in mind that most of the lights discussed here run on 12v DC, not 120v AC. You will need some kind of inverter or converter ( I can never remember which is which)
Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

Convert = convert something. That's what I need.

I don't know where to start.

You're 13. You should be asking how to get GIRLS in your room (or whatever your prefrence) not police lights.

(And no, I'm not telling you how. Ask your parents and don't make any babies)

However, If you really want to be a dork, get some lights at Spencers (if that place still exists, or some other cheap novelty place). Don't waste any money on the real thing.

The real thing tends to break a lot anyway, and new strobe tubes will run about $70 each.

You're going down a slippery slope. Try to reign in your Police fetish for about ten years. Stay out of trouble. Stay in school and get good grades.

Don't get a job as a security guard when you turn 18 and study something other than criminal justice if you go to college.

You have good intentions, don't turn into a wacker or wanna-be.
"Why is common sense so rare?" - Me

By the way.. They aren't "Clients" or "Customers" they're CRIMINALS... sheesh

I think it's a pretty kewl idea. I wouldn't mine having an old Smith & Wesson bubble gum light bar up in my office.

I'm sure some of you may have built model airplanes because that is what you wanted to do at one point, nerds. So there is nothing wrong if this kid should want a lightbar in his room. How many kids have that?

(Just keep it in the bedroom, kid, under the mattress with your porn mags.)

Keep a Computer in your room and download Police Lights as your screen saver and turn off your bedroom lights. Save you $. Also, yeah you are young and want to be Po PO but think of when you get old enough and when PD's start researching your past and talking to friends, I don't think they want to hear that you had basically a "shrine" to Law Enforcement. The best Cops are usually ther ones who love their job and enjoy doing what we do, last thing a PD wants is an eager, excited young cop on the streets who LOVES the Purty lights, lol. Yeah you are young, but 13 is in my personal opnion too old to do this. Become an Explorer (if U already are not) and make it a point to know cops in your area. If you see something and help out, they will remember when you're old enough to apply. Good luck with getting hired on when our older.
